Integrity 誠 Makoto

Three things cannot be long hidden:
the sun, the moon, and the truth.
誠
Makoto
Makoto (誠) is often regarded as the foundation of all virtues within traditional martial disciplines.
Without sincerity:
Respect can become empty politeness
Loyalty can become blind obedience
Courage can become recklessness
Justice can become self-righteousness
These reflections are not directed outward, but serve as reminders for self-discipline and personal growth.
In training, Makoto encourages us to look inward — to ensure that our actions, intentions, and character remain aligned.
“Makoto is not about judging others, but about holding oneself to a higher standard.”
